If your horse suffers with skin issues, consider these equines shampoos released in June, by Zephyr's Garden. They're free of additives and skin friendly.

Zephyr's Garden, founded by Georgette Topakas, prides itself on creating products that are environmentally friendly, natural and more importantly, kind to the horse. Inspired by her Belgian Warmblood, Zephyr, and his numerous health issues, Topakas wanted to treat her horse with natural treatments and remedies.

With too few options available and after much research, Topakas made her own and Zephyr's Garden was launched. Now a few years in, the business has struck a chord with green horse owners who want only natural remedies for their horses. The company's latest release, is a line of three organic shampoos, designed to help horses with skin issues.

Zephyr's Garden is committed to organic

The new shampoos, says Zephyr's Garden, are "85% organic and rinse super clean," with three three varieties available:

  • Stop The Itch – packed full of itch-fighting herbs such as chamomile, chickweed and calendula, this shampoo is designed to complement Zephyr's, Stop The Itch Salve and Spray
  • Anti-Fungal – this shampoo tackles both fungal and bacterial infections such as rain rot, scratches, ring worm, or other forms of topical dermatitis. Ingredients include, Oregon grape, white willow and calendula
  • Calm & Clean – is the most popular of the shampoos and combines the soothing properties of lavender and ylang ylang

What we love about Zephyr's Garden

We stumbled across Zephyr's Garden products via a friend who gave us a bottle of Stop the Itch Spray for our German Shepherd who suffers with allergies. We loved the versatility of having a product that was safe to use on all of our animals and one that even our kids could apply without the hazards of harmful effects.

The natural makeup of the products is of course a huge bonus, but for us, we were tickled when we avoided giving our GSD steroids during a particularly nasty allergy outbreak. It was also comforting to know that this is a company which places great faith in its own products. Topakas does not create or sell anything that she doesn't use on her own horses.

The new shampoos, which are available in 16 and 32 oz. sizes contain no artificial thickeners, additives, fragrances or dyes and are wonderfully simple to apply. Wet the horse, spray on the shampoo, curry or scrub the horse and rinse off. All of the bottles are 100% recyclable and reusable, with larger sized refills available for purchase.

Prices begin at just $14 for a 16 oz and $23 for a 32 oz. refill bottle. A special trio pack of all three varieties of shampoo is available for $33 and the shipping costs are the best – $8.95 Flat Rate, or if you order $100 worth of merchandise, shipping is free.
